The Week in GFM: January 16-22, 2012

Good morning, GFM! Apologies for the technical difficulties that delayed this email.* This week, don't miss Laura Freeze's excellent blog post, a new men's group, and the first day of Thinking about Faith!

Today:
New! GFM Blog Series:
This spring semester, our blog will feature a short, open-topic reflection each Monday (or, ahem, Tuesday, if the Internet is being uncooperative), written by graduate students & faculty members.
This week, Laura Freeze, Masters of Public Affairs '12, shares her mission & reflections on connecting with international students at IU. Read it here!

We’re on the lookout for people willing to post, so if you’re interested, contact Kerilyn Harkaway-Krieger (kharkawa@indiana.edu).

Thinking about Faith returns on Tuesday, January 17th at 7:30 pm at Dr. Tim O'Connor's home (3119 S Forrester Street). See last week's post for more details.

This week:
“Seeking the peace and prosperity of IU” meeting: Wednesday, January 18, 7-9pm, location TBA (somewhere on campus).

1.       What does it mean for you to seek the peace and prosperity of Indiana Universityand Bloomington?
2.       Do you believe that God plans to give you a hope and a future?

Part of Intervarsity’s national Graduate and Faculty Ministry commitment is “to be a redeeming influence among the people, ideas, and structures of the university and professions.” So what might God’s plans for GFM’s hope and future look like? That's what we'll discuss on Wednesday.

This semester, Weekly Prayer will meet on Thursdays from 9-10 in the Charter Room.

Looking ahead:
New! Men's Group Meeting/Series:
From Henry Gabriel: During the weekend retreat in November on "Flourishing within the Academy", the men split off for a bit and one of the questions raised was "What men's events or groups do we have?". Well, none. Until now.

On Thursday, February 2nd, we're meeting at Josh & Kerilyn's house from 7-9 p.m. to begin discussing the book "What Makes Life Worth Living" by W. Phillip Keller. It is short but thought-provoking and should provide a launching point for great conversation and fellowship. For the first meeting, we'll send out a PDF of the first three chapters; we'll also have a few copies of the book to give out at the first meeting.

After that, we'll meet every other Thursday (except Spring Break) and rotate locations. Also, this particular series is limited to this book; at the end of the semester we'll decide what, if anything, to do next. Please contact Henry Gabriel (higabriel@gmail.com) if you have any questions or are interested in hosting.

Superbowl party! Our most hotly-anticipated GFM event is coming up on Sunday, February 5. Details forthcoming!

*Those of you who have been to my house and seen the box fan/rubber band/twist-tie contraption keeping my modem alive are probably unsurprised.
